Nakayama: When I was invited to an audition, I was blown away by how cool I was when I read the “Danpei” anime and the “Danko” manga. “Banpei” and “Banko” have a slightly different vector of unprecedentedness, but they share a burning passion of “will definitely stand up even if they are in tatters!” While I wanted to be like this, I enjoyed it with a sparkling feeling.
Both “Banpei” and “Danko” are classic and straight works, but I think “Banko” has a more reliant humor. It also shows that the characters who play an active role in “Banko” are centered on cute women. Each character’s personality is more silly than “Banpei”, and each special move is a quirky symbol of it (laughs). Since the development of “Banhei” includes a homage to it, I think that the gene of “Banhei” has been inherited exactly.

――So you started serialization in the first year of Heisei? It means that the two things that change with the times and things that continue to exist coexist in the “danko”.

Hidaka: I was really surprised because I never dreamed that the story of Danpei’s daughter would start in this era of Reiwa. For the original author, Tetsuhiro, I was happy to feel that Danpei is still a very important work. At the same time, when I read the manga, I thought, “Teacher, you’ve turned it off in a very frustrating direction” (laughs).
Come to think of it, it’s been 35 years since Danpei. The teachers were young at the time, so I think there were times when I had no choice but to step on the brakes, considering various restrictions, such as the fact that the magazines were for elementary school students. I get the impression that the teacher’s skill as a manga artist and the growth of a human being born in the long career accumulating a sense of playfulness. I hope the teacher enjoys drawing himself. “There’s nothing that binds me! I’ll do what I want to do!” I felt the charm of the two-tiered stance in “Banko”.

――Mr. Nakayama, I think there must have been a lot of pressure because he was acting with Mr. Hidaka, who played the role of Danpei, who played the role of Danpei.

Nakayama: At first, I thought, “Is it really okay to stay here?” But Hidaka-san is really kind… At the scene, they call out to me, “I’m screaming a lot, but is my throat okay?” Thanks to that, I am no longer nervous.

Hidaka: For Manaka-chan, I think the pressure was immeasurable that she was at the center of each of the people who played an active role because this work was the first regular and first starring role.

Nakayama: It was really amazing. When I was recording the first episode, the manager told me, “You shouldn’t sit in the corner,” before entering the studio. However, when the recording started, it was a really hot site. Everyone had a lot of fun and was having fun facing the play, so before I knew it, we were having a blast together.

Hidaka: Manaka-chan is very confident in her throat strength, and no matter how much she shouts, she has never crushed her throat. After the recording of “Banpei”, my throat was rattled every time, so I think it’s reliable. There are many scenes where you shout “Banko”.

Nakayama: Especially in episodes 1 and 2, it’s a special move that screams, shouts, and screams! “Special move!” “That’s what it felt like (laughs).” It was a recording that ran up to the top of the tension at once.

――Do you have a favorite character other than Danko, which you play?

Hidaka: After all, I am Hirako-chan, the daughter of Taiga Nikaido, who was Danpei’s rival. I can’t help but wonder why that Taiga-kun gave birth to such a daughter (laughs).

Nakayama: Even though Taiga-kun was a perfect good-looking guy… (laughs).

Hidaka: Yes. A refreshing, straight person who looks like a picture. With respect to “Danpei”, that Taiga-kun took a single character from his name, “Taira” and named his daughter “Hiriko”. That’s why Hirako-chan, who grew up hearing about Danpei from Taiga-kun, has a lot of respect for Danpei. I’m very happy about that, but I wondered if this would not be the case unless I got a very strange wife (bitter smile).
Whether it’s hot-blooded or playful, it’s a scene where you can often see the power of the actors. In addition, Chinko-chan is also a favorite character with a taste.

Nakayama: I love Chinko-chan! At the beginning of the story, Chinko-chan is like the brakes of a bullet, but she’s becoming more and more arrogant. In proportion to that, Kaori Maeda’s acting also escalated (laughs). It’s really interesting to think that he’s a serious chairman type, but he’s getting more and more happy, and the role of the tsukkomi is sloppy. It’s good because the sillyness symbolizes that “this work has no brakes!”

――In this work, Danpei, who has grown into an adult appearance, will appear. It’s a father for the role of a bullet, and Hidaka-san, who once played Danpei, is a character with a deep relationship.

Nakayama: You encouraged me, “It’s okay,” when I was awkward with my first lead role. In the scene where he talks with a bullet that is so small on his shoulder, he performed with all his might because he was reliable, but interesting and with all his might, so I jumped in with the intention of borrowing my heart. I thought he was a kind, reassuring, and generous person.

Hidaka: Danpei, who has grown into an adult man, is a role I can never do, so I entrusted him with “please.” After the test, he asked me, “Is it okay to be like this?”

――“Bright and positive” is a common point for my daughter’s ballad.

Nakayama: Right. She is a child who makes me happy, angry, surprised, and gives me a very honest reaction. All the co-stars are reliable people, so I’m conscious of throwing my life-size feelings with all my might, with the intention of borrowing my heart.

――Hika-san, what did you keep in mind when you aired Danpei?

Hidaka: It was the first time for me to play a boy with a size like Danpei. When I first read the original, I thought, “What an energy-filled child.” A child who is like a ball filled with air, and wants to express the vitality that makes it burst. When I was talking to my mother, she was a spoiled child, and there were a lot of comical scenes. The straightness of Danpei is firmly inherited by the bullet.

――Please tell us about the impressive episodes at the recording site.

Nakayama: One day, Mr. Hidaka (narration) said, “Continue!” At that time, applause erupted from everyone on the spot, even though they hadn’t made any suggestions. Me too, of course. Everyone in the place was impressed that they wanted to hear this “continued”.

Hidaka: I was told that “continued” was “hot-blooded”. For me, the recording of “Danko” reminds me of the days of Danpei. At that time, Masako Nozawa was in charge of the role of Chinen, and I was very happy just to be able to work with Mako, but Mako-san, who has been playing the role of a boy for many years, has a tremendous voice… The first exchange between Danpei and Chin thought was much more energetic. That’s why I took over and over again, trying to be strong and energetic so as not to lose. That’s why even when everyone was screaming in “Banko”, that memory came back… I feel like I’m going back and forth between my past and current studios.
