From noon on Thursday, March 27th, 2025, Fukushima Prefecture has released the newest original short animation “Aka no Kiwoku”, which is the latest work directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, on the following special site.
This work depicts the thoughts of “Furusato” through the growth of the main character, set mainly in Fukushima Prefecture, where he is from his hometown of Fukushima Prefecture. ◯The reason for the birth of this work
This work was born as a special project of the “Fukushimamup Friends Association” launched in December last year to deliver the comprehensive information magazine “Fukushimamuppu” that is packed with the present and charm of Fukushima Prefecture to more people.

◯ Director, Oshiyama’s thoughts on hometown
The director of this work is Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who has been nominated for an American Annie Award for the theatrical animation “Lookback” and won the Best Animated Best Animated Best Animation Award in Japan and abroad. It was a special year for me as we received a great response from all over the world through the release of the film I directed last year.
And I feel more and more that I am who I am today because of my relationships with many people and because of my blessed environment.
At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, I was working in Tokyo, but I feel that I couldn’t do anything for my family and loved ones who were affected by the disaster in Fukushima.
From that experience, I started to feel that my current situation, which I am able to make a living in Tokyo, is, in a sense, on the sacrifice of important things.
This time’s “Aka no Kiwoku” is an animation work that creates a way of spitting out the uneasy feelings in yourself in some way.
For me, the 20 years I was born and raised in Fukushima was a time of creating many original experiences that never vanished.
In this work, a story of a woman who left her hometown looks back on her origins based on her own experiences.
For those who don’t know about Fukushima, it will be an opportunity to learn about its existence, and to think about “my origin” that everyone, not just Fukushima, and reconfirm the important things that we are about to forget.

This time, I am very honored to be able to sing and write lyrics for a wonderful project that warms my heart. The main character struggles in the city, and Akabeko-chan, who is always quietly watching over.
I thought, “It’s okay to go back anytime,” or “I can always go home.” While remembering what I did, I sang to be close to myself and the hearts of those who have left my hometown in the same way.
The fact that “there’s a place to return” made me stronger like a talisman in a distant land. I hope that this song will also be such a talisman for those who have seen “Aka no Kiwoku”.

[Profile of Kiyotaka Oshiyama]
Born in Fukushima prefecture in 1982. In 2004, he started working as an animator at Zebec Co., Ltd., and in 2006 he worked as an animation director for “Dennou Coil”. After that, he played a wide range of roles as director, screenwriter, and designer at various works and animation production studios. In 2017, he established the animation production company, Studio Dorian, and produced the short story “SHIGARI”. In 2024, he announced the theatrical animation “Lookback”, which he directed, wrote, character design, animation director, and original drawing. The film won many awards, including the 48th Japan Academy Awards, the 49th Hochi Film Awards, and the 16th TAMA Film Awards.

In October of the same year, Tatsunoko Pro made a major debut with the ending theme “Tick Taku” of the 55th anniversary work “INFINI-T FORCE”. After that, he worked on theme songs such as the TV anime “INFINI-TFORCE”, “The Wizard’s Bride Season 2”, the drama “Forgetful Sachiko” (TV Tokyo), and “Detective ga Hayaru” (Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV).
With the theme of fantasy, he expresses his own world view with lyrics, composition, and three-dimensional modeling.
